Entrepreneurs Learn Social Media Marketing Strategies

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 22, 2010) – Local small business owners and marketers enjoyed a business after hours with a South American flair last Thursday at Americas restaurant on The Woodlands Waterway. Hosted by Hallaron Public Relations, the business social was by invitation only and gave guests an opportunity to network and learn more about the marketing power of social media tools such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and You Tube. “All of these new online social networking tools are revolutionizing the marketing and public relations landscape – especially for small business,” explained host Mike Hallaron. “There is so much to learn but small business can leverage their marketing dollars on the Internet by engaging clients and potential customers directly through networking and other non-traditional Web channels. Start talking with them.”

Facebook has become a household name and may rival Google soon as the premier online property. According to Hallaron, Facebook offers excellent opportunities for the average small business. By customizing business pages on Facebook, companies can reach new customers and spread their marketing message exclusive of their main website.

Twitter, although misunderstood by many, allows you to broadcast your news, offers, and messages to your followers 140 characters at a time, spreading your marketing appeal across the web. However, like Facebook, You Tube, LinkedIn and business blogs, Hallaron warns these social tools are a unique two-way form of communication with your audience. It is not a one-way broadcast as with television, radio, and traditional print advertising.

“It is an excellent tool for getting to know your prospects and clients,” says Hallaron. Content must be useful and relevant to your social audience. Forget blasting repetitive sales specials and offers. That simply won’t cut it. “Social audiences expect honesty and authenticity while discussing your products and services,” Hallaron adds. “Otherwise it is just spam.”

Hallaron advises caution before jumping into social media. He says, “Many people do not do it right and then when they don’t see an immediate return, they claim that social marketing does not deliver.” Not so. A comprehensive social media strategy that considers the obstacles and anticipated rewards is the best way to approach a social media marketing strategy. Talk with a professional and see where social media fits within your overall marketing plan.
